I have mixed feelings on this topic, I tried to keep one last year but didn’t get very far with it. Anyhow I’m going to try again this year and have concocted a journal over the past week and will just try and pick up inspiration from the various blogs that are giving out prompts.
Christmas always used to be very special to me when I was younger or even when we were in our twenties bringing home boyfriends/husbands. Then when we started having children it was fabulous to share in their joy and wonder but now I’m afraid it means very little to me anymore. My husband does not want to be bothered with it at all, my ‘children’ are now 21 and 18 and although my DD is keen on all things Christmas my DS just wants money from everyone and where’s the fun in that?!
I’m trying to get into the Festive Spirit and am hoping that keeping a journal may help. Does Christmas still mean the same to you? Will you be keeping a journal this year?

Mary, I really hope you manage to find that Real Spirit of Christmas this year!
I won't be keeping a journal, mainly because I am just too busy and I know it will get lost in the mad rush.
My DS is 12 and still excited about Christmas. I also have two grown-up nieces and a nephew, who like to celebrate, and a little great-niece of 1 year old. Obviously she adds a certain extra to this year's Christmas. My mother is very excited about it too.
I hope you find your Christmas. Try telling your guys how you feel - maybe they would at least like to go to the local Midnight Carol service with you, or join in with a Christingle service?
Best of luck on keeping your journal. I have to focus on the good with my journal because sometimes I get too sad. My mother died on the 21st of December in 2001.
My daughters are older teens and Christmas is all about "want, want, want" - so the magic isn't there. But I did find keeping the Christmas journal last year and following Shimelle's prompts really helped me to maintain my own spirit and perspective on everything.
I'm doing JYC for the first time this year; last year I did my own kind of daily December album and really enjoyed that. I _love_ Christmas!! My children are aged 7 and 9, which helps. But gosh, I really hope you rediscover some of the joy of Christmas yourself this year x
I started Shimelles 'JYC' project last year & got to day 7 before life got in the way!!!! I will be picking up where I left off this year & am making my album an 'any year' journal....it may even take me a couple more Christmases to complete...but hey...that's OK!!!!
Christmas is always a bittersweet time of year for me...I always feel so nostalgic & then get cross with the percieved 'shallowness' of people at Christmas time nowadays! But....I still observe the traditions & love a candlelight Carol service.
My boys are 13 & 10...I still play Santa & fill their (& my hubby's) stockings (hubby does mine!)...but then my Mum used to fill mine up until I left home at 23!!!
I hope you will enjoy the season this year...just remember what it is really all about & if they just want money, make them work for it....I do a treasure hunt for gifts after Christmas lunch every year & it makes the moment last....a bit of preperation of clues required in advance though!!
